​​Oral health inequities persist across the world. These are driven by economic, cultural, political, and individual factors.

​In this module, you will explore what it means to practise inclusion oral health. You will also look at how participatory approaches can help address these disparities.

​What you will learn

​In this module, you will:

  • ​Explore the practical concept of inclusion oral health and its relevance to dental public health.
  • ​Understand the factors that prevent people from accessing dental care. These will include economic, political, cultural and individual factors.
  • ​Examine how co-design and co-production can shape more equitable oral health services.

​By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • ​Show critical understanding of the concepts of inclusion health, vulnerability, and intersectionality applied to dental public health.
  • ​Demonstrate critical understanding of co-design and co-production of oral health and health services.
  • ​Show critical knowledge of participatory research methods for involving vulnerable groups.
  • ​Apply knowledge of patient and public involvement in research, service evaluation, and service design.
  • ​Demonstrate team working and effective communication skills for engaging a wide range of stakeholders.​

Assignments / assessment

​​Group project plan (60%)

  • ​3,000-word protocol for a research or service development plan
  • ​Submitted jointly by the group, with a table showing each member's contributions

​Group presentation (30%)

  • ​15-minute presentation with up to 5 minutes of questions from internal examiners

​Individual reflective summary (10%)

  • ​Up to 500 words reflecting on the group work experience

​This module does not have a final exam.​
