Dental Therapy 6 is the final module before registration. It is designed to bring your clinical, scientific, and professional skills to the level of a safe beginner.

​You will deepen your knowledge of oral medicine. You will study:

  • ​the oral manifestations of systemic disease
  • ​mucosal lesions
  • ​atypical and chronic pain
  • temporomandibular disorders

​You will develop skills in managing complex patients, including those with chronic conditions. You will learn to communicate more complex treatment plans, with appropriate use of consent and medicolegal frameworks.

​You will broaden your clinical experience across:

  • ​restorative dentistry
  • ​paediatric care
  • ​oral medicine clinics

​You will also engage with global health issues and evidence-based dentistry projects.

​What you will learn

​In this module, you will:

  • ​Build on modules 1 to 5, developing the clinical and professional skills needed to practise as a safe beginner
  • ​Develop knowledge of oral medicine, including oral manifestations of systemic disease and mucosal lesions
  • ​Advance your skills in communicating complex treatment plans and obtaining informed consent
  • ​Work within the dental team, giving and receiving feedback, and recognising roles and responsibilities
  • ​Apply evidence-based dentistry and health coaching strategies to support patients of all ages

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Identify the oral manifestations of systemic disease and assess orofacial signs and symptoms
  • ​Apply a range of diagnostic and clinical skills to interpret clinical information and make evidence-based judgements
  • ​Demonstrate competence in the diagnosis of common oral medicine problems through specialist clinics
  • ​Communicate complex treatment options to patients clearly, with appropriate consent and medicolegal awareness
  • ​Work with patients to bring about health improvement through behaviour management and health coaching​
